NTP users are strongly urged to take immediate action to ensure that their NTP daemons are not susceptible to being used in distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. Please also take this opportunity to defeat denial-of-service attacks by implementing Ingress and Egress filtering through BCP38.

ntp-4.2.8p10, the NTP build system has a way to provide OS-specific hardening flags. Please note that this is still not a really great solution because it is specific to NTP builds. It's inefficient to have every package supply, track and maintain this information for every target build. It would be much better if there was a common way for OSes to provide this information in a way that arbitrary packages could benefit from it.
