This first set of commands has nothing to do with any repository and just displays information about the bitkeeper setup on your system, so you can at least see if things look remotely sane.
$ bk version # BK version
$ bk bin # binary installation directory
$ bk path # path for all BK subprocesses
$ bk gethost # host name
$ bk getuser # user name
$ bk zone # time zone
If any of these commands don't print reasonable information, you might want to fix that before going any further.
